Dr. Burkhard Sanner

Currently working in R&D and design of geothermal energy systems with UBeG GbR, Wetzlar, Germany (since 2004); active in particular for ground source heat pump systems (GSHP) and underground thermal energy storage (UTES).

From 2004-2016 representing the geothermal energy sector towards the EU-administration in Brussels, Belgium, as president of the European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC), a founder of which in 1998. Board member of the ETIP on Renewable Heating and Cooling and vice chairman of the Geothermal Panel of that platform.

Author and co-author of numerous publications, regular teacher at geothermal courses and university summer schools throughout Europe (and in some cases in USA and China), president of GEOTRAINET aisbl, Brussels.

Graduated in Engineering Geology in 1980, active in geothermal energy since 1985, mainly in R&D with Justus-Liebig-University, Giessen, Germany (until 2004); involved in IEA projects on GSHP and UTES from 1986 to 2004, and in EU-projects on geothermal energy and GSHP from 2004 until today.
